In the Rough

When days wear thin and rewards seem scant

and just desserts fall in others’ stead,

we must believe that what we receive

is the crown custom made for our head.

A real king rules his given kingdom

when self sheds ish and grabs hold of less.

In days of duress we realize

contentment is more than happiness.

It’s only when pressure is applied,

through the times that we feel the most scourged

and we yield to the weight of the world,

that the brightest of diamonds are forged.

  1. “When you desire life without difficulty, remember that oaks grow in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.” Your post reminded me of this great quote. Beautiful writing. 🙂
