Holding on to the remnants of a token

completely fractured but not broken

risking the fragile hinge to open

once again, to let you in.

When you lifted it up it seemed

to be in a gentle and tender fashion

only to later find that it was taken

lightly, and too much for granted.

One day you stumbled, fumbled

and dropped it and when it landed

shattered irreparably to dust

lifted away in the wind.

Only to ever be seen again

as a brief peripheral flash of doubt

blowing on the breezes of love

passing through the hearts of others

preparing to resign themselves

to the possibility of a similar fate.

  1. A very good write about a fate we all have to face sometime or other in life!
